Popular attractions on Dijon city breaks

Follow the 'Owl Trail'
Dijon is perfect for exploring on foot. Running around and across the city is a 21-stage walking trail, named for the owl which is the symbol of Dijon. The trail leads you on a tour of the city. On a buttress at the Notre-Dame church (which features on the trail) there is a stone owl which, if you touch it with your left hand, is supposed to bring you luck.

Visit St Benigne's Cathedral
The limestone cathedral is a fine example of Gothic and Romanesque styles of architecture and is built above the tomb of St Benigne, who brought Christianity to Burgundy in the 2nd century.

Palais des Ducs
The impressive palace was once home to the incredibly powerful dukes of Burgundy. A visit to the Palais des Ducs should include a climb to the top of the 150ft-high Tour Philippe Le Bon. The views from the top of the tower across Dijon make it well-worth the climb.

Musée des Beaux-Arts
Located within a wing of the Palais des Ducs is the excellent Musée des Beaux-Arts, which is one of the most outstanding museums in France. Even if the excellent art on display doesn't impress you (and it will), the rooms themselves are hugely impressive.

Route des Grands Crus
The famous 'road of the great wines' crosses the bottom of the Cote d'Or from Dijon to Santenay. It travels through an area of outstanding vineyards and more than 30 towns and villages. For anyone interested in wine, an excursion on this route makes for the perfect day out.
