Swiss Rail Holidays

Switzerland is a country that lends itself to exploration by rail. Relax comfortably in your seat as you pass some incredible scenery on our Swiss rail holidays. Journey through the stunning landscapes of the Swiss Alps and enjoy the beautiful views as you travel along bridges, viaducts and tunnels, past turquoise blue lakes and rivers, snow-capped peaks and dense forests. Along the way, stop at some charming Alpine towns and villages and take advantage of the interesting excursions that have been organised for you. Swiss rail holidays are especially popular at Christmas and New Year when the snow-covered landscapes spark particularly festive feelings and the towns are brightly adorned in fairy lights and seasonal decorations. Enjoy five course gala dinners with music and dancing, browse for gifts at the Christmas markets or enjoy a Christmas Eve sleigh ride through snowy forests. Swiss rail holidays are fantastic all year round and include amazing journeys on the GoldenPass Line, the Jungfrau Express and the famous Glacier Express to places like Interlaken, historic Montreux, the striking Lake Geneva and the idyllic Lake Lucerne, the picturesque ski resort of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn and the fairytale mountain village of Grindelwald.

About Swiss Rail Holidays

For the duration of your trip you will be accompanied by a friendly and professional Tour Manager who meets you before boarding the Eurostar service at St. Pancras International in London. Their services are included within the price of your trip and they are there to ensure that all of the travel arrangements are taken care of. The Tour Manager also possesses a great deal of knowledge about each area that is visited on our Swiss rail holidays and they are able to suggest places for you to see during your free time on the tour.

After travelling through the Channel Tunnel by Eurostar, transfer to the high-speed TGV service that will take you through the diverse landscapes of Europe to Switzerland. Whichever one of the Swiss rail holidays you choose, you will be treated to some incredible train journeys. The GoldenPass Line connects Montreux to the lakeside town of Lucerne with some fine views of Lake Geneva along the way. The Jungfrau Express route runs from Interlaken to just below the summit of Jungfrau Mountain which, at almost 3500 metres above sea level, is the highest railway station in Europe. The journey consists of three connecting trains, all of which have large panoramic windows to give you the best possible views of the mountains and lakes. Perhaps the most famous journey on our Swiss rail holidays however is the Glacier Express, also known as the 'Orient Express of the Alps', which runs between the towns of Brig and Chur. As it winds its way along the valleys and mountainsides using cogwheels to travel up the steepest parts of the track you can gaze at the magnificent views.

The hotels that are selected for Swiss rail holidays are specially chosen by us for their high standard of service and facilities, as well as a good location and a friendly welcome. Meals that are stated in the itineraries are included within the price of your holiday, as are the pre-organised excursions. It is not compulsory to take part in any of the excursions if there is somewhere that you would rather visit, but there is usually plenty of free time during the tour for you to explore independently. Sometimes there may also be optional excursions available which you can book locally for an additional supplement. Speak to your Tour Advisor before booking if you require any further information, they will be happy to assist.
