Romance and refinement by rail in Lake Como
Enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Como whilst relaxing in the comfort of an all inclusive hotel on this exceptional holiday. In addition to the enchanting landscape of crystal blue waters and lush greenery that surrounds your accommodation, this Lake Como train tour also gives you the opportunity to admire the sights of a number of vibrant cities and picturesque towns either by rail, boat or on foot. The Italian gems of Milan and Bellagio are just waiting to be discovered on your travels, as is the Swiss resort town of St Moritz, which is visited during your unforgettable excursion on the Bernina Express.
Days 1-2 - London to Lake Como
We depart from St Pancras International by Eurostar to Paris. Here we change trains and continue to Chambery for a night's stay at the 3* Mercure Chambery. On Day 2 we leave Chambery by rail for Milan, where we change trains for the onward service to Lake Como and transfer to Cadenabbia. We stay at the Hotel Britannia Cadenabbia, our base for the next seven nights. The 3* all inclusive hotel is perfectly situated, offering beautiful lake views. (Day 1-D; Day 2-B,D)
Day 3 - Bellagio and Villa Carlotta
We travel by boat to picturesque Bellagio today, a delightful resort located at the top of the peninsula. We have some free time here to walk along the lake promenade and enjoy lunch in one of the many cafés and restaurants. This afternoon we sail to Villa Carlotta, built in the 18th century by a Milanese Count. We explore the magnificent gardens and artworks, before enjoying a leisurely walk along the lakeside back to our hotel in Cadenabbia. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - At leisure
Day 4 is free for you to explore the lakeside towns. Perhaps make use of the local ferry to visit the delightful resorts, or take a stroll on the lakefront promenade. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Milan
We take a coach to stylish Milan today for a guided tour. The city is dominated by the magnificent Duomo, the "Teatro alla Scala" opera house and the incredible 19th century glass-roofed arcade, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. After the tour you are free to explore. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - At leisure
Today you are free to continue your exploration of Lake Como at your own pace. Alternatively, you could join one of the local excursion options offered by the hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - The Bernina Express
Today we enjoy a spectacular excursion on the Bernina Express. From Como we travel by coach to Tirano and join the narrow gauge Bernina Express, climbing the Bernina Pass to more than 7,000 feet (2,134m). You have free time in St Moritz for lunch before returning by coach to Como. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - At leisure
Today is free, so why not spend the day relaxing at the hotel's private Lido, where you can admire the view across the lake, while enjoying all-inclusive drinks. (B,L,D)
Days 9-10 - Homeward bound
We leave Lake Como by rail and travel via Zurich to Mulhouse. We stay overnight at the 4* Mercure Mulhouse Hotel. On Day 10 we begin our journey home by rail to Paris, where we join a Eurostar service to St Pancras International in London. (Day 9-B,D; Day 10-B)
