Christmas in the Scottish Highlands 2013
The West Highland Railway and Christmas in Crianlarich
Glistening lochs, snow-capped mountains and dramatic glens set the scene for our enchanting Christmas in Scotland on a rail holiday. The magnificent beauty of the Highlands teamed with the vibrant and friendly culture of Scotland makes it ideal for a lively Yuletide break. Highlights include a journey along the West Highland Line, which gives you the opportunity to view some of Scotland's famous scenery in comfort. Our special festive programme includes a variety of excursions, live music, dancing and a range of celebratory meals such as a gala buffet and banquets.
Day 1 - Meet in Glasgow
Your tour begins in Glasgow, where your Tour Manager greets you at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland. After checking in, you are free to explore vibrant Glasgow - take the chance to discover Charles Rennie Mackintosh's famous architecture, or perhaps visit the magical Christmas Market on St Enoch Square in the city, ahead of dinner in the hotel.
Day 2 - West Highland Railway
Today we take a train along the beautiful West Highland Line to Crianlarich. The route is widely regarded as one of the most scenic in Britain, and shortly after leaving Glasgow, the scenery becomes dramatic as we pass forests and mountains. We enjoy incredible views of Loch Long before skirting the shore of Loch Lomond. We then arrive in Crianlarich, and stay here for four nights at the 3* Crianlarich Hotel. After settling in, we enjoy mince pies and mulled wine before this evening's dinner.
Day 3 - Christmas Eve in Oban
On Christmas Eve we rejoin the West Highland Line and go west, passing through majestic glens and past picturesque Loch Awe, to Oban. Here we visit the Oban Distillery, one of Scotland's oldest sources of single malt Scotch whisky. Of course, we also enjoy a 'wee dram' to warm the winter's day! After some free time in Oban, we return to Crianlarich by coach for a three-course festive Christmas Eve dinner and live ceilidh music.
Day 4 - Christmas Day
Celebrate Christmas Day by taking a gentle walk through the beautiful countryside, or relax by the fireside in our homely hotel. Later we enjoy a four-course Christmas lunch and evening gala buffet. The Queen's Speech is shown this afternoon, followed by a popular quiz this evening.

After some free time for lunch, we continue through the rugged hills to Callander, a delightful town which was a favourite of Sir Walter Scott. Here you have free time to take a stroll, and admire the views of the imposing Callander Crags. Later we return to the hotel for dinner, followed by live music.
Days 6-7 - Crianlarich to Glasgow and home
We leave Crianlarich, and travel by coach back to Glasgow. We go along the west bank of Loch Lomond before arriving in Glasgow for another night at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland.
